30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 27

MORNING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. [Selah] I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. [Selah]
(Psalms 32:1–5)

CONFESSION & ASSURANCE
Eternal God, you are truth. I have been deceived; Misguided by lies, And disoriented by darkness. In my error, correct me. In my repentance, forgive me. In my ignorance, illuminate me. Jesus, your name is above every other name: I worship you. (Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer)

In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
(John 16:33)

NEW TESTAMENT READING
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
(John 1:29–34)

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

JESUS | HE HEALED THE SICK
And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases
and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
(Matthew 4:23-25)

EVENING HYMN

Dear refuge of my weary soul, on thee when sorrows rise;
On thee, when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies.
While hope revives, though pressed with fears, and I can say, "My God," Beneath thy feet I spread my cares, and pour my woes abroad.
To thee I tell each rising grief, for thou alone canst heal;
Thy word can bring a sweet relief, for every pain I feel.
But oh! when gloomy doubts prevail, I fear to call thee mine;
The springs of comfort seem to fail and all my hopes decline.
Yet gracious God, where shall I flee? Thou art my only trust;
And still my soul would cleave to thee, though prostrate in the dust. Hast thou not bid me seek thy face? And shall I seek in vain?
And can the ear of sovereign grace be deaf when I complain?
No, still the ear of sovereign grace attends the mourner's prayer;
O may I ever find access, to breathe my sorrows there.
Thy mercy-seat is open still; here let my soul retreat,
With humble hope attend thy will, and wait beneath thy feet.
