30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 19

MORNING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you.
(Psalms 42:1–6)

MORNING HYMN

My Maker and my King, to thee my all I owe;
Thy constant goodness is the spring whence all my blessings flow. The creature of thy hand, on thee alone I live;
Thy countless benefits demand more praise than I can give.
O let thy grace inspire my soul with strength divine!
Let all my powers to thee aspire, and all my days be thine.

Anne Steele, 1760

PROMPTED PRAYER

  • For a servant’s heart
  • For God to reveal to us the idols of our hearts and of our culture
  • For those who are homeless, and those who care for them

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Heavenly Father, you made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you: Look upon the heartfelt desires of your humble servants, and stretch forth the strong hand of your Majesty to be our defense against our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen. (BCP)

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
LORD, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. You forgave the iniquity of your people; you covered all their sin. [Selah] You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger. Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us! Will you be angry with us forever?... Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your steadfast love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation. Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. (Psalms 85:1-5a, 6–8)

MEDITATIVE PRAYER
Lord God, I need your help. I ask for healing. As I ask, I wait for you to shine light. Please reveal your truth. In this memory, Where were you? In this place, Where were you? In this time, Where were you? Speak, Jesus, for I wait. I listen. (Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer)

NEW TESTAMENT READING
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
(Romans 5:12–17)

INTERCESSORY PRAYER
Pray for the known needs of your local and global community: singles, families, widows, orphans, churches, ministries, missionaries, etc.

THE BENEDICTION
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
(Psalm 147:3)

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence and stillness, as God has the last word to finish the day. He labors while you sleep.
