30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 12

MORNING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest. He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!” The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! [Selah
(Psalms 50:1-6)

MORNING HYMN

Jesus, Lord of life and glory, bend from heav’n thy gracious ear;
while our waiting souls adore thee, friend of helpless sinners, hear:
[REFRAIN]
By thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord.
From the depths of nature’s blindness, from the hard’ning pow’r of sin,
from all malice and unkindness, from the pride that lurks within:
[REFRAIN]
When temptation sorely presses in the day of Satan’s pow’r,
in our times of deep distresses, in each dark and trying hour:
[REFRAIN]
When the world around is smiling, in the time of wealth and ease,
earthly joys our hearts beguiling, in the day of health and peace:
[REFRAIN]
In our weary hours of sickness, in our times of grief and pain,
when we feel our mortal weakness, when the creature’s help is vain:
[REFRAIN]
In the solemn hour of dying, in the awful Judgment Day,
may our souls, on thee relying, find thee still our rock and stay:
[REFRAIN]

TRADITIONAL PRAYER
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen. (BCP)

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
Hear this, all peoples! Give ear, all inhabitants of the world, both low and high, rich and poor together! My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding. I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre. Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me, those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches? This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts. [Selah] Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning. Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell. But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. [Selah] Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.
(Psalms 49:1-6,13-17)

MEDITATIVE PRAYER
Protect us, Jesus, From the world, The flesh, And the devil. I pray in your name, Amen. (Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer)

GOSPEL READING
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.
(John 3:16-21)

INTERCESSIVE PRAYER

C
