30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 29

MORNING PRAYER

THE PSALM
Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell upon it forever. The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip. The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to put him to death. The LORD will not abandon him to his power or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial. Wait for the LORD and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.
(Psalms 37:26–34)

CONFESSION & ASSURANCE
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24)

NEW TESTAMENT READING
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
(John 1:29–34)

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory forever. Amen.

THE FIFTH SUNDAY

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

JESUS | HE DIED, ROSE FROM THE DEAD, AND LIVES FOREVER
But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For “God has put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when it says, “all things are put in subjection,” it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.
(1 Corinthians 15:20-28)

EVENING HYMN

Christ the Lord is risen again; Christ has broken every chain!
Hark, the angels shout for joy, singing evermore on high: Alleluia.
Christ who gave for us his life, who for us endured the strife,
Is our Paschal Lamb today. We, too, sing for joy and say: Alleluia.
Christ who bore all pain and loss, comfortless upon the cross,
Lives in glory now on high, pleads for us and hears our cry: Alleluia.
He who slumbered in the grave is exalted now to save,
Now through Christendom it rings that the Lamb is King of kings. Alleluia.
Now he bids us tell abroad, how the lost may be restored, how the penitent forgiv'n, How we, too, may enter heav'n. Alleluia.
You, our Paschal Lamb indeed, Christ, today your people feed,
Take our sins and guilt away, that we all may sing for joy: Alleluia.
