30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 25

MORNING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM

I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.
(Psalms 30:1–7)

MORNING HYMN
God moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform;
he plants his footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm.
Deep in unfathomable mines of never-failing skill
he treasures up his bright designs, and works his sov'reign will. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take; the clouds ye so much dread are big with mercy, and shall break in blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust him for his grace; behind a frowning providence he hides a smiling face.
His purposes will ripen fast, unfolding ev'ry hour;
the bud may have a bitter taste, but sweet will be the flow'r.
Blind unbelief is sure to err, and scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter, and he will make it plain.

William Cowper, 1774

PROMPTED PRAYER

  • For those who suffer with physical illness, and those who care for them
  • For an increased awareness of the love of God

TRADITIONAL PRAYER
Almighty God, whose loving hand has given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor you with our substance, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of thy bounty, through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen. (BCP)

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

JESUS | HE CAN SYMPATHIZE WITH OUR STRUGGLES
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without
sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:15-16)

EVENING HYMN
Come, ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore!
Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity, love and power.
He is able, He is able, He is able, He is willing, doubt no more!
Let not conscience let you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness he requireth is to feel your need of him.
This he gives you, This he gives you, This he gives you: 'Tis the Spirit's glimmering beam. Come ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and mangled by the fall;
If you tarry till you're better, you will never come at all.
Not the righteous, Not the righteous, Not the righteous; sinners Jesus came to call. Agonizing in the garden, Lo! your Maker prostrate lies!
On the bloody tree behold Him: Hear Him cry, before He dies:
“It is finished!” “It is finished!” “It is finished!” Sinner, will this not suffice?
Lo! The incarnate God ascending, pleads the merit of His blood;
Venture on Him, venture freely; let no other trust intrude.
None but Jesus, None but Jesus, None but Jesus can do helpless sinners good.

Joseph Hart, 1759

PROMPTED PRAYER

  • For those who doubt
  • For those caught up in legalism or licentiousness
  • For those we know who are Atheists

THE BENEDICTION
Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
(Psalms 21:13)

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence and stillness, as God has the last word to finish the day. He labors while you sleep.
