30 Day Prayer Guide | Day 14

MORNING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.
(Psalms 30:1-7)

MORNING HYMN

To God be the glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that we may go in.
[REFRAIN]
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he has done!
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev’ry believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus forgiveness receives.
[REFRAIN]
Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
[REFRAIN]

PROMPTED PRAYER

  • For those who suffer with physical illness, and those who care for them
  • For a deep awareness of the love of God
  • For those suffering from war

TRADITIONAL PRAYER
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen. (BCP)

EVENING PRAYER

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence, stillness, and centering before the God of our salvation.

THE PSALM
Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people, from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me! For you are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you rejected me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
(Psalms 49)

CONFESSION & ASSURANCE
Lord Jesus, you taught us that in Your kingdom:
Blessed are the poor in spirit.
But we have been rich in pride.
Blessed are those who mourn.
But we have not known much sorrow for our sin.
Blessed are the meek.
But we are rebellious by nature.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
But we have great desire for evil and little longing for Your true goodness.
Blessed are the merciful.
But we are harsh and impatient.
Blessed are the pure in heart.
But we have impure hearts.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
But we have not sought reconciliation.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness.
But our lives do not challenge the world.
(based on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:3-11)

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)

GOSPEL READING
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
(John 1:43–46)

MEDITATIVE PRAYER
Uncover the things I hide. (Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer)

THE BENEDICTION
He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
(Philippians 1:6)

SILENCE [2 min]
Silence and stillness, as God has the last word to finish the day. He labors while you sleep.
