covid-19, salt

April 1, 2020

Good morning Salties,

It’s another beautiful day in Arizona. It’s hard to believe we’re still living each day with the uncertainty of how long and how bad this pandemic will be. But with all the uncertainty we have the CERTAIN knowledge that our God is in control and as Tom used to say there’s not a maverick molecule in the entire universe that is not under His sovereignty. One of His names that expresses that sovereignty is El Elyon – God most high from Genesis 14:18-20, Abrahams interaction with Melchizedek:

“God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth.”  God possesses everything, although this is not in the sense of Adonai, where God is our Master, but here it is His sovereignty.  He owns everything and controls everything. This is very clearly illustrated in Daniel, chapter 4, where Nebuchadnezzar proudly boasted in what he had accomplished but God intervened to show who was really in control of raising kings up and putting them down.  Christ is our El Elyon, because He is “…over all, God blessed forever.” (Romans 9:5) and all authority has been given to Him (Matt. 28:18.)  In Acts 17, Paul addresses the Areopagus with this idea stating that it is God who gives life, He determines appointed times, and in Him we live and move and exist, and that all should repent because God has fixed a day when He will judge the world through Christ.  It’s a great picture of our El Elyon, our God Most High.

Love, Neil
